Waiting For The Sunrise
Collection of the Hilbert Museum of California Art
The reference image for this painting was taken in Commerce, California, an industrial area near downtown Los Angeles. It was a rare rainy day, with the clouds breaking in the distance. The rain created mirrored reflections on the pavement. This red banner had broken free from the billboard, and was billowing in the wind. It was a scene I immediately knew I was going to paint. It was almost as if time stood still and everything got quiet, and just for a moment, I could hear myself breathe.
